On the (crossed) Burnside ring of profinite groups

چکیده
In this paper we investigate some properties of the Burnside ring a profinite group as defined in [5]. We introduce notion crossed FC-group, and generalise results from finite to (FC-)groups. our investigations, also obtain on FC-groups which may be independent interest.

Generalized Burnside-grothendieck Ring Functor and Aperiodic Ring Functor Associated with Profinite Groups
For every profinite group G, we construct two covariant functors ∆G and APG from the category of commutative rings with identity to itself, and show that indeed they are equivalent to the functor WG introduced in [A. Dress and C. Siebeneicher, The Burnside ring of profinite groups and the Witt vectors construction, Adv. Math. 70 (1988), 87-132]. We call ∆G the generalized Burnside-Grothendieck ...
متن کاملThe Burnside Ring and Equivariant Cohomotopy for Infinite Groups
After we have given a survey on the Burnside ring of a finite group, we discuss and analyze various extensions of this notion to infinite (discrete) groups. The first three are the finite-G-set-version, the inverselimit-version and the covariant Burnside group. The most sophisticated one is the fourth definition as the equivariant zero-th cohomotopy of the classifying space for proper actions. ...

متن کاملOn the Burnside Problem on Periodic Groups
It is proved that the free m-generated Burnside groups B(m, n) of exponent n are infinite provided that m > 1 , n > 248 . In 1902 William Burnside posed the following problem [2]. Does a group G have to be finite provided that G has a finite set of generators and its elements satisfy the identity x" — 1 ? In other words, must a finitely generated group G of exponent n be finite? In the same pap...

γ = c0 + c1p+ c2p + · · · = (. . . c3c2c1c0)p, with ci ∈ Z, 0 ≤ ci ≤ p− 1, called the digits of γ. This ring has a topology given by a restriction of the product topology—we will see this below. The ring Zp can be viewed as Z/pZ for an ‘infinitely high’ power n. This is a useful idea, for example, in the study of Diophantine equations: if such an equation has a solution in the integers, then it...
